National Influenza Vaccination Week

By Mountain-Pacific

Flu is like a secret. It is best kept to yourself.

The flu, also known as influenza, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. These viruses change yearly, so it is important to get a flu shot every year.

Did you know that more than 100,000 people are hospitalized every year because of the flu?

80% to 90% of seasonal flu-related deaths occur among those 65 years or older, according to a 2013 study.

Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting immunized. If you have not gotten one yet, don’t worry. It is not too late. You can get it through February and still be protected! If you are 65 years or older, it is especially important to get your flu shot. The immune system weakens with age, and influenza is often quite serious for people 65 and older.
