Boosting Your Brain Power

Part 1: Mind Exercises for Seniors

By Mountain-Pacific
Stay tuned for next week’s blog, which will feature some tips about how seniors can improve their brain health in addition to doing mind exercises.

Have you recently walked into the kitchen only to forget why you went in there? Do you spend time every day trying to find where you set down your reading glasses or where you put your keys?

These are examples of short-term memory loss. If you have experienced short-term memory loss, then maybe you should consider playing some mind-exercising games. Even though the brain is not a muscle, it can act like one in that training and exercise can improve how it works. Experts disagree about whether mind-exercising games are guaranteed to improve your brain health, but there is research that shows these games could help you sharpen your mind and memory. But before we list some resources for online mind exercises you can try, here are some important tips to remember.

Get into a routine.
As people age, they tend to settle into habits, so behavior changes can be tough. At first, try to exercise your mind once a week. Then see if you can build up to doing it every day. Stick with it, and create a routine you can follow.

Be patient.
Take your time when working through the games listed below. Do not get upset. Expect to make some mistakes and stumble along the way. Exercising your mind is a journey and will require patience.

Do not get frustrated.
Keep a positive attitude and stay upbeat. Do not let a negative experience or result pull you out of your routine. Like any workout plan, exercising your brain will require work and dedication.

Everyone learns differently, and there is no one “right” game to play. Try the links below and see which game works best for you. Some of these websites require you to enter your email address and a password, but all of the games are free.

Games are really great and good “exercise” for our brains…..I love games eventho I don’t play daily……….I also have found I feel much better, mentally and physically, if I do my daily walk. I also have done the Montana Womens Run for about 5 years now…..it is wonderful……and plan to continue in the coming years!……..
