MU: CMS Has Proposed a 90-Day Reporting Period for 2016
August 19, 2016
Written by Patty Kosednar
To offer greater flexibility in the meaningful use of EHRs, CMS has proposed a 90-day EHR reporting period in 2016 for all eligible providers, eligible hospitals, and CAHs. The proposed rule would change the reporting period from a full calendar year to any continuous 90-day period between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016.
This proposed change is included as part of the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment Changes for 2017 that CMS proposed on 7/6/2016. Read the entire proposed rule change (the EHR Incentive Program changes are about half way through the ruling).
In the meantime, please keep monitoring your year-to-date meaningful use reports and working on your performance for each objective, as well as completing the actions required for the yes/no objectives (see MU Blog post dated 7/16/16 for a full list of actions required for MU reporting in 2016).
If the ruling is approved, you could use any 90-day period in 2016. So if you complete all tasks and are meeting the needed thresholds for each objective, if/when the ruling is approved, you may have already met all requirements for MU this year, and could move onto something more fun.
We’ll keep an eye on this proposed change and keep you updated as new information becomes available.
