The Super Bowl is an event known for friends, football and, of course, food—but the festivities are not known for being healthy. It’s easy to see that bowl of chips and the seven-layer dip and think, I’ll just have a few. And don’t get us started on the desserts! Those brownies the neighbor made are to die for! Seem familiar? But indulging in the fat, salt and sugar of traditional Super Bowl Sunday snacks can leave us with regrets come Monday.
To enjoy the fun and food without those regrets, here is a list of healthy alternatives for some classic Super Bowl snacks.
Chips
Is it even a Super Bowl party without chips? But chips are easy to snack on without realizing the portions. Instead of going for the bagged chips loaded with sodium and preservatives, try making your own chips! Zucchini chips or kale chips can both be made with an oven or air fryer. Apple chips are also perfect for a little sweetness, something the kids will love! You can also check out some snacks that are not chips but can still give you that satisfying crunch.
Dips
Dips are a staple of a Super Bowl celebration and can include creamy queso, spicy salsa or fresh guacamole. However, dips can be full of fats and sugars. Instead, opt for these store-bought dips that are simple and often gluten-free, vegan, preservative-free and/or dairy-free while still being delicious. You can also try your hand at this zesty white bean dip or this protein-packed Greek yogurt ranch dip. Have plenty of veggies such as carrots, celery and cauliflower to dip along with your healthy chips!
Wings
Wings are almost always on the Super Bowl menu. Make chicken wings healthier by opting for dry rubs instead of sauces. Rubs can be just as flavorful and spicy as the more classic buffalo wings. You can also go vegan and try buffalo cauliflower wings, which are low in calories and fat but will still have your mouth watering.
Pigs-in-a-blanket
Did you know there is a healthy alternative to this classic snack that is just as delicious? You can make the “blanket” gluten-free or the “pigs” fat-free. Even with this simple dish, the possibilities are endless! Take a look at some of these recipes for inspiration:

Pizza
Carry-out or delivered pizzas can be filled with preservatives, unhealthy fats and piled high with toppings that make one slice an entire meal. Fortunately, there are plenty of recipes out there for healthier pizzas, ranging from those with a cauliflower crust (homemade or store-bought) to those layered with sugar-free pizza sauce, whole cheeses and fresh veggies. Or try whole wheat crusts or thinner crusts to help cut extra calories.
Brownies
Nothing beats those ooey-gooey chocolatey delights, but you can skip the high calories and sugar. Healthier recipes include gluten-free, dairy-free, grain-free and more. Some popular alternative ingredients in brownies include avocado, bananas and even pumpkin puree. Here are some recipes:
